Ledvance: automated catalog creation thanks to Pagination API

LEDVANCE, a global leader in lighting solutions, manages thousands of products across multiple markets and languages. Like many manufacturers, they faced a familiar bottleneck: creating product catalogs was slow, manual, and hard to scale.

Working with digital agency Asioso, LEDVANCE built a centralized content hub on Pimcore where all product information lives in one place. The next step was making catalog production as efficient as the rest of their workflow, and that’s where Pagination catalog maker came in.

The challenge: complex catalogs inside an existing API ecosystem

Once the Pimcore and SAP integrations were in place, LEDVANCE wanted its catalog production to live inside the same environment, not in a separate tool chain. The challenge was to integrate Pagination into an ecosystem that had been tailored specifically around LEDVANCE’s processes and data.

The solution had to:

• Use the product data, attributes and media already managed in the PIM
• Use LEDVANCE’s InDesign layouts, including tables, feature and certification icons, and accessory pairings
• Let central and local teams configure catalogs through a guided interface instead of working directly in InDesign
• Generate production-ready files that could be reviewed, refined and approved with minimal manual layout work

In short, LEDVANCE needed a catalog automation process that could plug into its single-source publishing strategy via API and still preserve full control over design and content, while creating a catalog from PIM data. 

The solution: Pagination API embedded in the workflow

Working with Asioso, Pagination was connected to the Pimcore environment through APIs so that catalogs could be produced as a natural extension of LEDVANCE’s existing workflows.

Using Pagination API in this environment, teams create catalogs directly from their PIM data and select:

• Page layout style
• Attributes to display in tables
• Language and market
• Static pages to include (introductions, brand pages, legal notes)
• Accessory pairings and related products

Pagination generates a first PDF draft of the catalog with all pages laid out according to Ledvance’s design rules.

The Ledvance teams can review the draft, can add or adjust static pages, and request a new version with one click. 

Once approved, Pagination delivers the final ready PDF versions (for print and digital) and InDesign source files available if manual adjustments are ever needed.
